Passenger Lists

The Forgotten of Ellis Island Deaths in Quarantine, 1909-1911. Great info, plus history. Author says "Besides placing stories and photos of items found relating to Quarantine, I've placed the names of over 400 people who died in quarantine between November 1909 and June 1911 with information from each person's death certificate. I've also begun tracing each individual back to his/her ship's passenger arrival record."

You can currently look at the entire Ashburton passenger list (53K) on this site.

Many Irish came through Canada.

Sadly, not all ship passenger lists are online.

However, many many ship lists on microfilm can be found at the National Archives and at the Family History Library.

NARA has good information on immigration records at https://www.archives.gov/research/immigration

The FHL has prepared information on how to research Emigration/Immigration at https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/United_States_Emigration_and_Immigration#emigration_and_immigration

In a nutshell, though, you will have to look at two kinds of records: 1) Ship Arrival Records, to get the specifics of the ship (including exact arrival date), and 2) Passenger Arrival Records (to get the person).

Some excellent naturalization references
